The concept for the Savory Gourmet Market originated with our executive chef, Adam Hyzdu, who noticed right away the lack of New York-style “pork stores” when he moved to metro Atlanta from Brooklyn in 2013. Local deli shops are popular up north, and they often cater to certain ethnicities and dietary needs (ie: kosher) depending on the neighborhood. After bouncing the idea off friends and family and discussing the idea with potential partners, Adam knew it was a good idea. He asked his wife, Carrie, to run the numbers (her background is in accounting and finance), and called on friend, Beth Johnson, to review the market research for the category. The three partners decided to move forward in late Summer, 2018.
Adam, Carrie and Beth knew they wanted to be in the residential part of Downtown Alpharetta with high foot traffic, and secured the location within Teasley Place through a bible study connection, George Jackson III. It was the last retail space available within Teasley Place and a prime location next to Coalition Food and Beverage. Adam created the menu, Carrie created the budget and Beth designed the space. The Savory Gourmet opened for business June 21, 2019. The rest is history.
